  1. The Hare was originally linked to the fertility rites of the spring. Their open activity at that time of year made them a prominent creature. The normal habits of the animal, being an object of prey, was to appear at the twilight hours.

    There is an age old image of the Hare in the Moon. All these factors linked the hare to the lunar cycles and beliefs. As a symbol of the occult it's habits are linked to the Moon Dieties and in turn witchcraft.

    Whether or not the hare really gazes at the Moon is not clear, but it certainly follows its annual progress.

    Being related symbolically to the spring, the hare was originally part of the Easter or Oestre rituals. When the rabbit was introduced to the British Isles during Roman occupation and the Dark Ages it then took precedent and became the Easter Bunny.
