  1. Yeah, you're way over your head. Better start doing your research... distillation is a complicated process that takes a lot of complex equipment. Since home distillation is also illegal, you can't just buy a still... you have to make one yourself. After that, there are a lot of safety and sanitary precautions to take.

  2. http://www.homedistiller.org

The process is simple and if you do it correctly, it is very safe.  Disregard comments about difficulty and going blind from methanol.  The above link will dispel those claims quickly.  And yes, you can buy a still http://www.home-distilling.com http://www.coppermoonshinestills.com

Just be warned that companies that sell stills are required to maintain a list of customers.  At anytime and without warrant the feds can demand a list of the company's customers.

If you live in the U.S., making moonshine is illegal.  In order to legally produce distilled spirits you need a federal permit and possibly state and local permits.  For federal permit information visit http://www.ttb.gov/spirits/index.shtml

It is incredibly tedious and restrictive to obtain a federal distillery permit.

The process for making moonshine or any distilled spirit requires a distillation aparatus known simply as a "still".  The still's basic function is to separate ethanol from a solution known as a wash.  It accomplishes this through boiling the wash and taking advantage of the different boiling points of ethanol and water. Water boils at a higher temperature than ethanol so by maintaining a boil that is less than the boiling point for water, you will produce ethanol vapor. (In theory anyway) The vapor is cooled rapidly into a liquid that contains a higher percentage of ethanol than the original wash. The concentration of ethanol will vary depending on a lot of factors.  The biggest factor is the type of still employed.

A wash is made by fermenting a solution of sugar and water with yeast.  The sugar provides "food" for the yeast and as a byproduct the yeast produce ethanol and carbon dioxide (amongst other things).  Your source of sugar can be as simple as table sugar or as complex as a mash made from grain or fruit.  You can find instructions for mashing at homedistiller.  Beer and wine are examples of low ethanol solutions that could be distilled into spirits.

There is a book called "Making Pure Corn Whiskey" that gives very specific details on how to make moonshine.  I'd recommend it as required reading along with all of the information at homedistiller.org.

  3. LOL... you have no idea what you are doing... you are going to end up with a bung of METHANOL... instead of ETHANOL...

its not an easy two step process. you should do some reading and start doing something easy like wine making or fractional freezing...

  4. Way too much work & equipment needed to brew shine, & if you don't do it right you'll make something that could make ya go blind.  Brew some beer or make some wine, much easier & safer.
