The moon is basically made out of rock. These rocks are basalts, similar to volcanic rock we find on Earth. The basalts are rich in iron and magnesium... but for a simple answer, its volcanic rocks.

in 1969, Neil Armstrong was the first man to set foot on the moon.  it was not made out of green cheese like we were told as children.  it was just made up of rocks.  no precious metals... no gem stones... nothing of any real value to anybody at all.  several more trips were made to our nearest celestial neighbor - and then we stopped going there because there was no real reason to.  nothing but ordinary rocks.  a geology text might be able to tell you the exact type of rocks... but, for the most part, the moon- fabled in story and song-  is little more than a great big beautiful rock in the sky.
