Moore/ Stephenson surmount Bowtell/ Dean in semi final – Loughborough Challenger 2011
Fourth seeded team of Tara Moore and Francesca Stephenson blue rained on unseeded team of Amy Bowtell and Eleanor Dean in the semi final of the Loughborough Challenger 2011.
The two teams took up the gauntlet on carpet courts of Loughborough University in Loughborough, Great Britain and it took the fourth seeded British couple only fifty one minutes to get rid of unseeded Irish Bowtell along with Briton Dean in straight sets of 6-4, 6-1 on Friday the 11th of November 2011.
Inaugurating the opening round of the match was the fourth seeded duo and they got off to a good start as they comfortably held their serve and commenced the scoreboard at 1-0. They then capitalized from an early break and reeled straight two games to take a mini lead of 2-0 on the scoreboard.
However, it was in the third game that the Irish/ British couple broke back and with a hold of serve in the next game they had managed to equalise the score at two games each at the end of the fourth game.
From there onwards the squads each matched a blow for a blow and neither crew wanted the other to take the lead. The score kept tied at three games each at the end of the sixth game and then at four games each at the end of the eighth game.
In the last two games the fourth seeded pair cut the goose chase by capitalizing on another break in the ninth game and as they held their serves for the last time in the set, they clogged the opening set with a 6-4 victory to go one up in the match.
The second round was initiated by Bowtell/ Dean and once more both the players held their serves to ease themselves on the scoreboard at 1-1. However, in the third game the unseeded Irish/ British double faulted on their second serve and presented a game to their adversaries. On the other hand, Moore/ Stephenson scooped two consecutive games and took a mini lead of 3-1 by the end of the fourth game.
They further repeated the feat and were now only a game away from victory at the end of the sixth game. During the last game, Bowtell/ Dean had erred and gifted away the set with a breadstick victory and the match at the end of the seventh game.
The fourth seeded couple will now be facing top seed Malou Ejdesgaard with Amanda Elliott in the final clash for the trophy.
