Moped Speed?

I am nearly 16 and looking to get myself a moped. I am abit confused about how fast they will go -

* Everywhere on the internet says that they will only do 30mph

*My local dealer (who is not a con-man before anyone say that) said that some mopeds come part-restricted and he was willing to sell me one that would do 40-45mph and this WOULD be legal.

can people tell me how fast yours goes NON DERESTRICTED please =]

Cheers

  1. my mate has a aprillia sr50 replica when she bought it second hand it did 35 easy  this is legal

now the exhaust as been changed, de restricted multi fire plug fitted and K&N filter.

the bike did 50 no problems

because the bike is modified it is agaist the law.

you are not allowed to modifie a motor bike of 50cc to increse the power if you are a learner in the UK

    regards x kitti x

  2. my 50cc did 30mph bang on. unless i was going down a big hill then i would get upto 50mph lol also depends how big you are if your a chunky monkey thebike will be slower ;)

  3. BY LAW, if you are only 16 then your bike must legally be capable of no more than 30 mph and less than 50cc (49.9cc is legal).

This law has been in since 01/08/1977. Previous to that and applying to bikes first registered before 01/08/1977 then the 50cc rules applied but the 30 mph didn't but they have to had pedals by which they could be powered if necessary. (my old Suzuki AP50 did 55mph but was first registered in 1976 therefore being legal)

  4. UK - for a 16 year old a moped/motorbike must be no more that 50cc and restricted to 30 MPH. It might be possible to get a bit more out of one, but not much without de-restricting it. Stick with what's legal, when you're 17 you'll be able to ride a higher capacity bike/moped with less restrictions.

  5. it depends were you live

in the uk they are legaly restriced to 30mph

but you can get them deristricted but it is ilegal and if you have a crash dont expect the insurance company to pay out

people have got 50cc mopeds to 55-60mph but that is with alot of proformance parts

  6. At the age of 16 you may only ride a moped. A moped has a maximum design speed not exceeding 50 km/h (approx. 31 mph). It has an engine capacity no greater than 50 cc and can be moved by pedals, if first used before 1 August 1977.

From the age of 17 you may ride (if you get the right licence)a "learner motorcycle", which has an engine up to 125 cc and a power output not exceeding 11 kW.

In a way, the dealer is right, a moped can legally be fiddled with to produce more than 50 km/h, but its only legal for you if you, the rider, come into the 17 year old "learner motorcycle" class.

  7. 1)

    OFFICIAL DEFINITION

ANY  ALTERATIONS AND IT  IS ILLEGAL AS IT WILL NO LONGER BE CLASSED AS A MOPED!

IF HE SELLS YOU ONE THAT GOES FASTER KNOWING YOU ONLY HAVE A MOPED LICENCE HE IS BREAKING THE LAW AND TRYING TO SELL YOU ONE AND GIVE YOU A REASON TO BUY ONE OF HIS.

YES HE IS A CON MAN,

BECAUSE IF YOU GO TO FAST AND GET STOPPED THE FIRST THING HE WILL DO IS ACCUSE YOU OF DE RESTRICTING IT AND SWEAR THAT IT LEFT HIM AS RESTRICTED AND THAT HE KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT IT

AND OR MAY DECLINE ANY KNOWLEDGE THAT YOU ONLY HAD A MOPED LICENCE
