Morales draws huge crowd for weigh in
A huge amount of people crowded around to see Erik Morales and Scotland’s Willie Limond weigh in under the sun in Mexico City today.
Morales and his crew dressed in strawberry red tracksuits and were swept up to the scale with cheers.  Limond looked pumped and ready to go.  He signed autographs and seemed to enjoy taking photos with fans.  Both fighters weighed in at exactly 65kg (143lb) and stood politely stood beside each other in mutual respect.
Tension ran high between lightweights Daniel Estrada and Reyes Sanchez, both from Mexico City, who equally weighed in at 61 kilos.  Ana Maria “The Warrior” Torres and German-based Alesis “The Tigress” Graf weighed in at 52kg a piece, and Edgar Sosa and Philippine Ryan Bito at 50kg.
Sosa will be shooting for a third consecutive KO since he’s recovered from an injury.  He vowed he would fight with intelligence and heart, and that he would work the body of a dangerous Bito.
Sosa was clear that he’ll fight once more if possible by the end of the year, and then try to challenge for the flyweight title.
The bouts, which take place at Mexico City’s huge Plaza De Toros, is already sold out.
The main attraction is undoubtedly Morales, who is considered a legendary Mexican fighter.  Morales was involved in no less than 10 title fights, includingo ones with the likes of Manny Pacquiao and Marco Antonio Barrera before retiring for the first time in 2007.  In Limond he will face his second opponent since coming out of retirement in March.  He outpointed Jose Alfaro in 12 rounds.  Before the win, Morales suffered four defeats in a row.  Those notwithstanding, he once had a record of 44 wins with only two defeats.
Morales is the heavy favourite going into the fight, but has not appeared to have retained much of the talent that made him a living legend.  All the same he may be able to find some of it if he moves up in weight for his next bout.
