  1. Gambling is not a sin. What you do with the money might be.

  2. First, if you are not risking your money, it would not be a sin.

Then you have the whole separate question of whether gambling with money is a sin. Different Christian denominations feel differently about this.

By the way readers, issue is gambling....not blackjack.

  3. why would blackjack be a sin anyway. Ok so first off I'm not a christian so of course I see nothing wrong with it as long as it is not interfering with other aspects of your life but even if I were the bible doesn't mention gambling and christians only really oppose on strange and vastly stretched moral codes. The only thing wrong with gambling is when you let it become a problem or if you approach it with the attitude to gain something for nothing. As long as you approach it with the attitude that I am going to wager and revel in the fun and uncertainty of it and if I loose then it is ok (if you have already set aside money specifically for entertainment) and if I win then that is good but not the real goal then I see no reason that anyone cannot enjoy gambling and especially blackjack which is a very involved and intellectual game.

  4. Have fun unless you are feeling convinced that it is a sin. Whatever you do, do in moderation.

  5. Enjoy it

  6. why is it a sin my christian friend gamble 600 bucks on 6 rolls of the dice but it's still not a sin foolish but not a sin.

life is a game of chance that god/s have placed our judgement in luck or to be unlucky what results is how we are judged.

  7. No. No harm, no foul. Enjoy the game.

  8. I'll have to answer this according to the Christian tradition, as that's all I'm really familiar with.  Let's call blackjack "gambling".  Gambling can be defined as “risking money in an attempt to multiply the money on something that is against the odds.” The Bible does not specifically condemn gambling, betting, or the lottery. The Bible does warn us, however, to stay away from the love of money (1 Timothy 6:10; Hebrews 13:5). Scripture also encourages us to stay away from attempts to "get rich quick" (Proverbs 13:11; 23:5; Ecclesiastes 5:10). Gambling most definitely is focused on the love of money and undeniably tempts people with the promise of quick and easy riches.  But if you're not risking any money then it's no less moral than games like Scrabble or Clue.  It's purely entertainment, and thus does not qualify as gambling.

One thing to remember is that the Bible DOES have gambling in it!  While the Bible does not explicitly mention gambling, it does mention games of "luck" or "chance." As an example, casting lots is used in Leviticus to choose between the sacrificial goat and the scapegoat. Joshua cast lots to determine the allotment of land to the various tribes. Nehemiah cast lots to determine who would live inside the walls of Jerusalem and who wouldn’t. The apostles cast lots to determine the replacement for Judas. Proverbs 16:33 says, “The lot is cast in the lap, but its every decision is from the Lord.” Nowhere in the Bible is gambling or "chance" used for entertainment or presented as an acceptable practice for followers of God.  But nowhere is it condemned, either.  Gambling is a difficult issue because if it is done in moderation and only on occasion, it is a waste of money, but it is not necessarily "evil." People waste money on all sorts of activities. Gambling is no more or less of a waste of money than seeing a movie (in many cases), eating an unnecessarily expensive meal, or purchasing a worthless item. At the same time, the fact that money is wasted on other things does not justify gambling. Money should not be wasted. Excess money should be saved for future needs or given to the Lord's work - not gambled away.

At the end of the day this all comes down to the fact that you're simply engaging in a pasttime with no risk and no reward.  Gin rummy isn't a sin.  Spades, hearts, and bridge aren't sins.  And blackjack, if not played for money, can't even be considered gambling.  And hence is not a sin.  At least according to the Bible.

  9. Morality behind sins are acts which you personally deem wrong yet commit.  Is betting in any form a sin to begin with?  Biblical texts are vague guides to just live your life fairly and happily.  Playing recreational blackjack isn't even a questionable act.  Have fun.

  10. It isn't a sin.
