Moratti Says No Dice on Sneijder Move to Man U
What a year this could prove to be for Wesley Sneijder. He won a Treble with Inter Milan this past season (winning the League title, the Coppa Italia and the Champions League) and he is one win away from the World Cup. He will likely be named the player of the tournament should the Netherlands win, and now Manchester United wants the talented Dutch midfielder on their team.
Reports out of the U.K indicate that Manchester United were prepared to offer the Italian champions £30 million for Sneijder. Inter Milan President Massimo Moratti believes the reports are correct, as Inter has already recived transfer offers for many of their players including Maicon, Diego Milito and Samuel Eto’o. That’s just normal when a team has the kind of successful season that the Nerazzurri enjoyed in 2009-2010.
But Moratti has no intention of letting Sneijder go: "I believe that it's true [that United are interested], but I don't want to ask for too much so as not to fall into temptation," he said. "I am enjoying watching Sneijder at the World Cup and I will enjoy watching him at Inter next year too.”
The Inter boss however does see the influx of offers as a good sign for the club: “It's a great satisfaction to know that Inter's players are so desired on the market because it means that they are very good."
They are very good indeed. Inter won the triple crown this year because they were a complete team. They had strikers Samuel Eto’o and Diego Milito leading the offense, midfield workhorses Sneijder and Cambiasso, defenders like Walter Samuel and Maicon at the back and goalkeeper Julio Cesar. Of course a team that complete will get many offers for their players.
Sneijder has opened so many eyes as he enjoyed both a great season with the European champions and may possibly be crowned a world champion for his nation. He is one of the rising stars of football and has taken headlines from eliminated players like Lionel Messi, Wayne Rooney, Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Sneijder has helped the Netherlands overcome their recent shortcomings in international tournaments as he has caused problems for each of Oranje’s opponents. He has formed a deadly combination with Arjen Robben. If you remember, the two were opponents in the Champions League Final, Sneijder a member of Inter and Robben with Bayern Munich.
Sneijder joined Inter Milan last season and made an impact from the start and helped the Nerazzurri win their first Champions League title since 1965.
It appears, though, that Sneijder will remain with his current club for a while. His current contract is scheduled to expire in 2013, but the player’s agent Soren Lerby has expressed his client’s interest to remain with the club for the next five years. The agent and Inter’s directors are expected to discuss a contract extension for the Dutch star until 2015.
A move to Manchester United would mean smart business for the club as they just purchased the midfielder last year for half the price of what the Red Devils are prepared to offer. However sometimes winning is what’s best for business and Sneijder has proven that he can help any team win. A World Cup would cement his status as a winner and  would further press the Italian club to keep Sneijder around for a while.
Manchester United continues to seek transfer targets and it appears that they’ll have to keep looking as Moratti and company are very much set with one of their best acquisitions in recent memory.
