Morawij in for the first graded success in the Bet365 Molecomb Stakes
For the majority of the line-up of the Group 3 Bet365 Molecomb Stakes, the race is a debut for the graded company as they are coming out of listed races. The five furlong race at Goodwood has attracted a line-up of twelve two-year-old runners who will race on Tuesday, 31st July. The winner will get to take home the £22,684 prize money.
The 7 to 4 entry for the race is Exceed And Excel’s two-year-old, Morawij. He has raced just thrice during the season and his two victories are separated by a fourth position.
The chestnut colt cleared his maiden in the Solarking L.E.D. Maiden Stakes on 24th May, 2012 at Haydock over six furlongs. The favourite entry was paired up with jockey, Neil Callan, and the two won by just a neck’s margin.
Finishing the closest behind the winner was, Fraserburgh.
Settling the maiden got the Roger Varian trained an entry in the Group 2 race right in his second career start. Not many rides get to race at that level just during the second attempt of their career. It reflected the level of confidence and conviction that the connections had in the under charge.
The two-year-old colt out of mare, Sister Moonshine, failed to come at par with the expectations of the connections as he finished fourth in the Group 2 Norfolk Stakes on 21st June, 2012 at the Ascot race course over five furlongs.
The race was won by, Reckless Abandon, while the runner-up’s position was seized by, Gale Force Ten. The favourite entry of the race, Ahern, ended fifth on the track of eleven.
The next stop for the Sheikh Ahmed Al Maktoum owned was in the Mobile Betting At Coral.Co.UK Dragon Stakes on 6th July, 2012 at Sandown over five furlongs. The favourite entry won the race by the margin of 2 ¼ lengths.
The drop down from the graded level to a listed race helped the two-year-old pull back on the rankings and racing at a graded level after a break and more experience will make his improved form shine out.
The ground conditions are good if coupled with quick is what favours Morawij the most. He will race out of the eighth gate with jockey, Neil Callan.
