Morawij to land the Mobile Betting At Coral.Co.UK Dragon Stakes (Listed Race) after finishing decently in graded company
After a fourth ending in a Group 2 at the Ascot race course, the connections of the two-year-old chestnut colt, Morawij, have penned down the Class 1 Mobile Betting At Coral.Co.UK Dragon Stakes (Listed Race) as the next target. The race will be staged at
Sandown over five furlongs and six yards on Friday, 6th July. It will be contested by a line-up of six two-year-old runners.
Exceed And Excel’s two-year-old chestnut gelding out of mare, Sister Moonshine, broke the maiden at the very first chance available.
He was the favourite winner of the Solarking L.E.D. Maiden Stakes on 24th May, 2012 at Haydock over six furlongs. The debut race of the career did not make things easy for the juvenile who had to escape defeat by a highly narrow neck’s margin.
Very few get to race in the graded company right after clearing their maiden. The second career attempt of Roger Varian’s under charge was in a graded race which in itself is the reflection of the capability of the colt, and the level of confidence that
the connections enjoy with the Dunchurch Lodge Stud Co bred.
Riding from the Sheikh Al Maktoum string, Morawij ended fourth in the Group 2 Norfolk Stakes on 21st June, 2012 at the Ascot race course over five furlongs.
The defeat was not really a miserable blow to put up with as the two-year-old pulled out of the challenge pretty decently. He was part of the leading cluster.
Racing from the eighth stall with jockey, Neil Callan, Morawij raced from the centre of the group, but held back, and did not head front until there was only the last furlong to go. Inside the final furlong, Exceed And Excel’s colt tried challenging but
finished a good enough second from the stampeding group of five closing in for the wire.
Reckless Abandon won the race, setting Gale Force Ten at a disadvantage of ¾ of a length while Ian’s Dream concluded the race third after striding through the same differential.
Morawij’s third career outing will be at Sandown with the familiar jockey, Neil Callan, and the two will take on from the fifth gate.
