Ive just had a call from my docs - who were very vague, asking me to come in and give more blood for the Full Blood Count Test.

I gave them 3tubes two days ago.

Why would they need this, or am i over reacting?

I was trying to ask why but they wouldnt answer properly, just asked for more blood......

  1. I have no idea but there has to be something  going on with your doctor try researhing it because there up to something

if there not up to something they just need your blood for other people so you blood might be in someones body right now

hope you find out whats going on

  2. Someone goofed in the lab probably.  That is what happened to me.   I'd be asking more

why"s why they need it.  The lab charged me extra for another persons mistake.  Seems like hospitals and labs do this all the time.  I even had x rays screwed up and they tried to get me to pay for them.  I told the insurance company and they took care of it.

(Also when I had my daughter ( 2 weeks before), they claimed I was on a monitor for premature laybor, they charged me for that and I wasn't     -insurance company took care of that too.)

  3. I have to add another possiblity other then the lab messed up.  Sheesh, we're human, it happens, but not as often as people like to think.  My experience has been that nurses and doctors have no problem blaming the lab, even when it wasn't the labs fault (it seems to be so much easier for the nurses to tell the doc the lab lost the sample rather than they forgot to send it) It is possible that your doctor wants to do additional testing that requires different additives (or no additives) then the ones they drew.  The different colored tubes are specific for various tests.  A full blood count sounds like you might mean a complete blood count which requires blood drawn in EDTA- a purple capped tube.

  4. I'd agree with aimee-id, the lab always gets the blame!!! Even though you gave 3 tubes, each tube is for specific things. They can't just take blood from another tube if there isn't enough in the one they need.

I would guess either the person who took the blood forgot to take the correct tube, your doctor forgot to ask for a full blood count the first time, the blood in the tube clotted (it happens), or there wasn't enough blood in the tube.

Also, probebly the person who called to ask you to come in again wouldn't have known the reason - they are probably the person who makes the appointments etc.

  5. reneem is probably correct. A full blood count is a pretty simple test to do but it cant be done if the blood has clotted in the tube (the phlebotomist may not have mixed the blood with the edta enough), the tube was broken in transit, someone spilt or lost it etc.

It is much more likely that something went wrong with the sample (which would also explain why they are being so vague!) than that they need a repeat because something is wrong. Even if they found a problem, they would be able to do a lot of other tests off of the one sample so usually wouldnt need another.
