More Gold for Great Britain at the Olympics Team’s Pursuit event
Team Great Britain continues to dominate the track cycling events with yet another blistering performance in the women’s team pursuit.
Dani King, Joanna Rowsell and Laura Trott helped their side with a record-breaking victory during the event.
Team United States finished second and grabbed a silver medal with Canada securing a bronze.
The British trio sets a new record after they finished the race in a cumulative time of 0:03:14.051 defeating Sarah Hammer, Dotsie Bausch and Lauren Tamayo of the United States with a convincing lead.
"I think we expected to break the work record at some point maybe not in every single round that we competed in but we wanted to win," said Trott.
"We went in being favourites and we wanted to win obviously and it all just came together. We rode really well as a team”.
"We were never complacent because we knew other teams would always step up and we've worked so hard for this and we really believed in ourselves”.
“We couldn't ask for much more, three perfect races and I can't believe we’ve won the gold," she concluded.
Team Canada represented by Tara Whitten, Gillian Carleton and Jasmin Glaesser was up against the Australian cyclists Annette Edmondson, Melissa Hoskins and Josephine for the bronze medal.
The Canadian team managed to round up with the bronze, leaving the Australians devastated for the third consecutive day.
New Zealand, Netherlands, Belarus and Germany achieved the fifth, sixth seventh and eights positions respectively.
Jason Kenny of Great Britain breaks Chris Hoy’s record and sets a new fastest time of 9.713 seconds during the 200m qualifying round of the men’s individual sprint.
Gregory Bauge of Team France and Shane Perkins of Team Australia occupied the second and the third spots in the respective order.
