Next fall I plan on applying to Northeastern University. I'm in my junior year right now with a GPA of about a 3.0. I'm taking two L3 Courses and hope to be in an AP class next year. I've done 80 hours of volunteer work and plan on doing more over the summer, I've had a job during the summer and I plan on doing a 'saturday seminar' class at yale for a high school credit and I'm also in the diversity club which Northeastern is really big with and maybe the italian club this year and debate club. I'm also planning on studying extremely hard this year during my junior year and im hoping to do well on my SAT. Any more advice?

  1. Get that GPA up.  If it is your weighted average then i think your changes are dim - not impossible mind you - just not likely.  Northeastern only admits 39% of applicants.  Assuming a reasonable spread of applicants then a 3 probably will not cut it I am sorry to say.  A 3.5 would see you with a much better chance.

    Thanks

  2. Altho neu is big on diveristy and stuff, its a big enough school where it really comes down to the numbers for getting accepted although extra-curricular activities help. I got an academic scholarship with a 3.4 gpa (from one of the top MASS public HS) and SAT's of 760 math 560 English. On the new SATs  if you can get do around 1800 or better and get your gpa around 3.2 or better with some ap classes on you resume and volunteering you would have an excellent chance of getting in. GPA isnt as important if your taking Honors or AP level courses (im not familiar with L3) , many kids who go to crappy highschools might have better gpa's but the quality of the course is very important to schools like NEU, your better off getting worse grades in harder classes, as long as your getting no worse than c+/b- as your lower grades.  If your from massachusetts that helps to. Good luck study hard, I was able to save 20K a year by busting my *** in highschool and now im getting a good co-op job and good grades from northeastern. There is light at the end of the tunnel!
