More ball python help?

I recently got my baby ball python a week ago, and for a few days he explored his cage until he settled into the hide on his hot side, and curled up in there for a few days. But now he's on his cold side, and I don't have a hide for him on his cold side, so he's just curled up there. He dosen't look frightened or anything, but could his hot side be too hot for him, or does he just want to cool off?

  1. Maybe both. He'll go where he wants to. Just make sure to give him the option do to it. Hope I helped.

  2. I have two ball pythons that I raised from babies and are now about 4 yrs old.   They do this all the time.  :)    As long as his warm side is available he'll go back when he's ready.   Both of mine vary between warm and cooler sides.  The hide spot is on the warm side.  The cool side just has a few fake bushes that they are somewhat hidden by.

Other suggestion is to check your temps.  The warm side shouldn't be above 90-95 at most.  If it's hotter than this, you want to adjust your lights / heating pad. (if you have a heating rock - take it out!.. you may not have been told already (can never be too safe) but they can cause burns and you dont want to use these for heating).

If you dont have an aquarium thermometer, please get one.  :)  They're great for keeping you and your baby ball informed along with a humidity gauge.

  3. You could buy another hide spot for the cold side and  just make sure the temperature on the hot side isnt over 90 degrees.
