More concerns raised over Korean Grand Prix
Although the Korean track has at last got the green signal yet the concerns for the track do not die away. The newly built Korean International circuit is now being considered as a big threat for the drivers owing to the extra slippery surface it might offer,
due to the delayed laying of the blacktop.
The venue in Yeongam that lies close to the South Korean capital Seoul has been completed only a few days back. It is scheduled to hold the first Formula One Grand Prix on its soil this Sunday.
The fate of the race has undergone a lot uncertainty because of its delayed construction work. As per the FIA rues the final inspection of any track is supposed to be carried out 60 days ahead of the event. However, special lenience was shown by the authorities
for this track.
The initially scheduled inspection of September was postponed due to incomplete work explaining bad weather to be the reason. However, the final inspection took place last Monday amidst a lot of uncertainty and doubts as the Formula One supremo, Bernie Ecclestone,
voiced his worries just a few days before the inspection.
Yet, contrary to the expectations, the Korean organisers were given a ‘go ahead’ signal by the authorities but the insecurities have still not ended. The top layer of asphalt has been laid less than two weeks’ time which raises the fear that the track has
not got enough time to settle down. If that is true, this means the surface would be very slippery and driving would be very risky.
While talking about the track the BMW Sauber's driver Nick Heidfeld said, "From a driver's perspective the most important thing is that the Tarmac lasts. If the final layer is laid a short time before, it is generally understood it can be oily which, of
course, would be extremely problematic. But I can only give any informed information about the quality and layout of the track once I have driven there".
Moreover, the Mercedes GP driver, Nico Rosberg also commented, "It looks great from the pictures that we have seen and I hope that the asphalt holds up as it has only been put down very recently".
However, the Indian driver Karun Chandhok the only driver, who has run the demonstration laps on the track, while talking about the hazards of driving on the track said that it could be a little more slippery than usual tracks yet that does not mean that
it would be too dangerous to drive.
