..........Burgoyne was charged after his contact with Sam Mitchell left the Hawks skipper unconscious on the Aurora Stadium turf.

Mitchell said on Monday that the contact was slight and that he was 'unlucky' to be knocked out..............

Now Mitchell is embarrassed as the slomo replays show he was hardly touched.

You never see such goings on in the NRL. Mitchell ,himself, should be charged..

  1. Must have been a bl00dy good dive to knock himself out!!

Betcha no rugby losers could do that!

  2. Yeah - it wasn't a great contact but it doesn't take much to knock someone out if you get them in the right spot.

I think he may have been embarrassed to have been knocked out by it but that's how it is.

Anyway - there is a long tradition of AFL players defending the guy on report.  It's an unwritten code amongst players.  You don't turn evidence against a fellow player and umpires are wrong, no matter what.

That's the way it is - no bleating or slagging off at the other clubs like the Canterbury Bulldogs do!

I don't think the AFL has ever turned that around and charged the player for suggesting "it wasn't really that bad mate"

  3. I am not sure what the actual question is here but I must say that it was a pretty tough charge against Burgoyne having seen the replay. Some things just happen in footy, but I think if you are not in Mr Umpires good books, you cop the report!

  4. mate its just like soccer.

Socceroos were knocked out because of a dive...we may have still lost in Extra Time or whatever but we lernt the hard way in 2006 that diving is not the answer to anything.

Here in local juniors, there is ONE TEAM who pulls off dives...and its only 2 or 3 players. No one touches them, they fall foward and then cry foul for a free kick.

Thats happening at junior level because of the AFL guys pulling off dives today...

its sad; but if it keeps going; AFL will have more dives than in Soccer!

  5. He was knocked out! What do you want him to do?

He took a dive and made himself get knocked out!?

  6. Thats a stupid thing to say, Why would he have gone of on a stretcher if he didnt need it, knowing he would not be allowed back on for a set amount of time.

  7. Well done champ! you and your Rugby are the toughest in the land let no one tell you otherwise,Ive seen boxers knocked out with just a clip to the chin but i suppose they were taking a dive also??

  8. It wont stop.

The olympic male diving team for Bejing is being selected from Victorian AFL footballers!

  9. He was knocked out and carried off the ground where the rules are he can't come on for a certain period of time.

IF he took a dive then his coach would be pissed at him for missing the time when he has to be off the field.

In cases where players have taken a dive before - the purpose is to get the free-kick. He didn't even take the free kick because he was knocked out.

There's plenty of incidents where as soon as the free kick is give the player miraculously recover - Michell was still on the ground

    .

  10. It wont stop in AFL - it will only get worse.

  11. I don't know if he dived or not.

Some players go down as though they've been shot for any little thing where others tough it out. I've given up trying to work out who's diving & who's not.

One think I do know ; I can't readily think of a West Coast Eagle who takes dives. Please remind me if I've overlooked anyone.
