Question:

More earthquakes ahead caused by polar icecap meltdown?

Scientists have said that the ocean levels will rise in the near future due to global warming. But, have they predicted the extra weight impact on the Earth's ocean plates? Will the extra weight on the Pacific Ocean stop the continental plates from moving towards it and cause further friction and devastating earthquakes?

  1. there is considered opinion of that , but that has been remarked on only by the knowledgable , not only that but the release of pressur in the polar surface could give rise to some devastating results as far as tectonics are concerned .

Indicators are movements and quakes on otherwise stable areas of plates , ( U.K. ) and movement following abnormal weather .

Noticeable recent events  Polar bear seen in Iceland , quakes in U.K quakes following dry periods . Nobody knows do they , hinted at , possible sensible conclusion but nobody knows yet . Everybody is waiting for the big one ! before they commit themselves or say i told you .

  2. i personally am no scientist and i doubt the other guy that answered is one but the weight portion he mentioned is true but having the polar caps melt completely would cause water to rush new places ripping through current plates that have yet to be exposed to something that can easily move mountains... yeah i would say that the rise will have a very uninhibited and unbalanced effect (in relation to earthquakes and the latter..."apparently california is screwed in the next hundred years"

  4. No.

Water level will rise too little versus total ocean depth, extra weight will be negligible.

Plate tectonics have mainly orthogonal forces vs. gravity, so the extra weight will not stop plates.

  5. Global Warming is pure BS. The Arctic Ice cap may be melting but the Antarctic cap is growing rapidly. The Earth is slowly changing its axis point and there is nothing we can do about it.

    Relax and enjoy the ride.
