How would one go about verbalizing the idea of "starting from scratch" in a more eloquent form?

    depends whether you want to be profound or understood...

    you could make up a words like

    genesisististic initiation of an actiivity...as it were...

Think it depends upon the context of what you are trying to "start from scratch."  If you are baking a cake from scratch, you could say you are baking a cake "using basic ingredients."  If you are building a computer from scratch, you could say you are building a computer "from the very beginning" or "starting without resources."
