I'm having an oak tree cut down in my back yard. It's dead. Is it more expensive to cut down a dead tree or a live one? (save the sarcastic c**p please).

  1. It would only depend on how large the tree is.  It doesn't matter whether it's dead or alive.

  2. in total costs, usually more expensive to cut a live one since the value of the tree is a factor. live trees are typically an asset, and cutting them down devalues the property.

as far as the actual labor costs are concerned, I would imagine that a dead tree might be slightly easier to cut down and thus take less time, require less labor, and cost less. I'm not sure about that though, and it depends on each tree individually anyway so you'll have to just get a quote.

  3. I'll go the other way.... I'd expect a dead tree to be more iffy, more dangerous in how it will break and fall, and thereby be more expensive ......

  4. its the tree surgeons time your paying for, so it wont cost any different
