More from... "I can't teach, now what?"?

I live in Northeast Ohio. I basically have looked everywhere within a 40 mile radius. My husband doesn't want me working in downtown Cleveland and the combat pay isn't worth the risk. I volunteered there for 4 weeks. I've been subbing for three years now. I landed one long-term sub job and that district is laying off teachers. It truly is a sad state to live in right now. Trying to weigh the pros and cons. I appreciate all the advise!!!

  1. Just keep putting out your resume, over and over and over again.

i work in CT, one of the highest paid areas in the country (starting is around 50,000 now with master's).  It was hard to break in.   I just had to stay focused and keep applying.  make sure to meet the principals when you sub.

I do one set of letters to all principals in June (when they know teachers might not return) and then another set of letters to principals in August (for teachers who leave last minute).

If worst comes to worst put you foot down with your husband and try to get a kindergarten class in the inner city.   After you have some "real" teaching experience (believe me I know subbing is real) you can transfer out.

    Good luck!
