okay well i gauged my ears from and 18/20 (regular piercing) to a 14 gauge a week ago.

the left ear is COMPLETLEY fine. but the right ear is really swealled and hurts quite a bit...

well i took the ring out to soak it in seasalt and noticed the ear hole has alot of puss coming out..

it seems as if all of it needs to be drained out or something.

is this normal??

i'm worried.

i asked this before but, if i seriously did have a 'blowout' how do i fix it?

dont tell me to take it out because im not stupid. the infection will seal inside and could create an abscess.

i can't go to the doctor.

i could downsize by putting an eyebrow ring in there, (thats all i have)

but im like paniking, please tell me what to do!?

  1. You do need to CLEAN ear piercings. This is especially true of stretched piercings and absolutely essential if you've recently stretched your piercings.

When you stretch a piercing, you are creating tiny microscopic tears in the tissue inside the piercing. Inside your piercing is a little tube of skin called a fistula. This is the skin that stretches to accomodate larger jewelry. If you stretch too far too quickly then you risk ripping the fistula or forcing it right out of your piercing altogether.

I highly doubt that you've had a blowout making such a small stretch. It's possible that you've torn your piercings, though. The skin may just not have been ready to stretch that far so quickly. This kind of tear could be aggravated or even infected if you haven't been cleaning your ears correctly.

If your ear is draining pus, then you need to see your doctor or a professional piercer. A piercing that is sore, angry and draining is an indication of infection. I suggest a visit to a piercer first. A reputable piercer will send you to the doctor if it looks like you really need to go.

In the future, clean your ear piercings when you clean the rest of you. Just soap the jewelry with anti-bacterial soap and rinse them very, very thoroughly. Or you can clean the piercing with sea salt soaks if you choose. Also be careful about removing the jewelry from a recent stretching. If you take the jewelry out of a new stretch, it may not want to go back in. So, clean around the jewelry as best you can for the first week or two of being at a new size.

The other part of keeping a piercing healthy is to NEVER touch your piercing with hands that aren't freshly washed. Dirty hands carry germs and risk infection for your piercing.

Take yourself to a professional to have your ear looked at. If you develop a fever, have spreading redness, or otherwise feel sick then go straight to the doctor. A pro will be able to give you personalized directions for care
