More hp on a Briggs and Stratton engine ?

Question

I have a Briggs and Stratton 5hp motor on my custom go kart

But I want more speed out of it ( Horse Power ) how can I achieve this

my maximum budget is $200

First get several cams in hand. Start up your grinder and take a small amount of material off the back side of the cam lobs. Take a little more off each cam. You can also change the duration and overlap. If you have never changed cams in a car for more power- its a complete science.

Next put a speedo cable soldered to the idle mixture adjustment. Once you are under way lean that baby out. Don't get to carried away as you are micro seconds away from frying the piston.

This motor will not pass a race inspection so you will need to run unlimited- and that is where the big boys come into play.

Have a ball keep safe and watch out for the other guys.

Last is the real piston burner-run an oil pressure nylon line to the mouth of the carb and tie it down so it sprays into the carb throat. Get a can of ether(starting fluid) and super glue the nylon hose to it.-If you ever saw "Men In Black" this is your red button. You only use it when you can win in a 3 second burst-(not a 4 second burst)

What you have here is a genuine grenade motor. That means sitting next to this and giving it all it has is going to spread parts, and you will need something to keep them from flying around. Fire is a real possibility. You motor lasting a season is doubt full.

Fine tuning is important. An infra red thermometer will be your best timing tool.

Find out how much you can bore the cylinder and how much does a larger piston cost. then port and releave the block if it is a flathead engine. If it is a flathead shave the head but do not cut it past the point of the opening of the valves. use a copper head gasket. Experement with a little larger carburator and jets. Experement with the length of the intake manafold and exhaust pipe. If you can aford it buy a longer duration cam shaft. There are a lot of little things that can yeald more HP. Be sure to keep every thing in balance.
