More legends make it to the Volleyball Hall of Fame in 2012 – Volleyball news
The Volleyball Hall of Fame, which honours the athletes with remarkable achievements and accomplishments, has recently announced to induct six more into the Hall of Fame in October, 2012.
The new inductees are selected on account of their dedicated services to the sport of volleyball and current members of the HOF vote for the newcomers.
This year, Peter Brazilian Mauricio Lima, Peter Blange of the Netherlands, American Jeff Stork, Russia’s Lyudmila Buldakova and Georgiy Mondzolevski, and Mike Dodd of the United States will be inducted into the Volleyball Hall of Fame and it was mark the
27th induction class.
Among these new inductees, Lyudmila Buldakova of Russia is the only female volleyball player. She represented the old Soviet Union volleyball team for many years and brought a distinction to the sport. Except Mike Dodd of the United States, who was beach
volleyball player, the rest of Hall of Fame inductees are also related to indoor volleyball. Peter Blange will be the first representative from Netherlands in the Hall of Fame.
All of the inductees have plethora of achievements in the yesteryears. Brazil’s Mauricio Lima earned a great name in the 1990s, while Mike Dodd and Jeff Stork established the United States as medal contender in each quadrennial of the Olympic Games.
Currently, the Volleyball Hall of Fame is represented by 20 different countries of the world. There are 106 members of the Hall of Fame. With the induction of new class, the number of Hall of Fame inductees will increase to 112.
The induction festivities will start on Friday, October 19. The Wistariahurst Museum in Holyoke, Massachusetts will hold the event, which will include a special reception on the opening day. The public “Meet & Greet” will be followed on Saturday, Oct. 20
and the ceremony will be closed with the formal Enshrinement Dinner Oct. 20.
The co-chair of the Volleyball Hall of Fame Selection Committee, Doug Beal, shared his thoughts on the sport and the new induction class. He said, “Volleyball is truly a global sport, not only with its six countries representing the 2011 inductees, but the
almost 220-plus national federations associated with the FIVB making our international federation the largest sports body in the world.”
