More majors in 2013 for Rory McIlroy
Rory McIlroy has been phenomenal with his game. His career best ranking is no.1 and he has maintained it for an astonishingly long period of time.
McIlroy’s 2012 career had been interesting (as it is always expected from the 23-year-old from Northern Ireland) and addictive to watch.
Despite rumours of the popularity of his game plummeting after fears that Tiger Woods’s return to the game will not herald in the glory days of his past.
Some five years ago, Woods's career had been phenomenal, but a scandalous affair brought him down, leaving him struggling to regain his reputation.
Rory McIlroy does have what it takes to bring the game together. His 2012 year had been spectacular with the Race to Dubai trophy win, capping it off beautifully.
The year 2012 saw a feat that only English Luke Donald has managed before: winning the Professional Golf Association Tour four times in the same year.
By the end of the year, McIlroy did admit to having stretched his schedule a tad too long, saying he felt exhaustive (butter spread over too much bread?) by year’s end. He said he hoped
to pick and choose, all the more wisely, the tournaments he will be participating in come 2013.
He did say, however, that he looks forward to making the coming season a great one. Thus far, the Masters and the Open Championship have seized his fancy as he eagle-eyes a major the coming
year.
With the threat of Tiger Woods’s return, McIlroy will do good to bag a major title in 2013. It will serve to ground the impressive edifice he has built of himself, nestled up there, at the
top perch.
He spoke to the press about his future plans: "It is something I have thought about. I've got the Masters and the Open still to win to try and get that.
"I said at the start of this year that if I didn't win a major I would be disappointed and going into next year I will say the same. If in 2013 I don't win a major I will be disappointed.
But I just want to contend more in the majors next year".
