  1. You must simplify the equation.

    3 + 2X + (2 -2X) = 3

    is also

    3 + 2X + 2 +2X=3

    which equals

    5 + 4X = 3

    Subtract 5 from both sides

    4X = -2

    Divide both sides by 4

    X= -2/4

    Simplify

    X= -1/2
