More planes... This time in the air. But what ?

Seen above Welwyn Garden City today at about 5pm. Anyone know what the are ? (or why they were there ?)

I'm glad somebody knows what you are asking because I know little to nothing about planes and I thought you were talking gibberish.

Most likely a holding pattern, especially if the airport nearby is busy. Or the planes have to much fuel to make a safe landing so they fly in large circle around the airports airspace to burn fuel. That's basiclly the only things possible unless there were crashes that day involving terrorest.

P.S.  A holding pattern is when there are too many planes departing, arriving, and stuff like that. So the ATC (Air Traffic controller) will put the planes in a holding pattern so the plane has to fly in large circle until air and ground traffic is clear.
