More players commit to play the RBC Heritage Golf Tournament – Golf News
Big names on the PGA and European Tours are continuously making a commitment to play the 44th edition of the RBC Heritage Golf Tournament, scheduled to start from April 12, 2012.
Recently, four players, Webb Simpson, Zach Johnson, Bud Cauley and Henrick Stenson, have all confirmed to appear at the Harbour Town Golf Links on Hilton Head Island.
The world number one, Luke Donald, five-time champion Davis Love III and the defending champion, Brandt Snedeker, are already in the field of the tournament.
The tournament will be played exactly one week after the Masters Tournament scheduled to be held at the Augusta National Golf Club.
Therefore, attracting such players is a great achievement by the tournament officials. Otherwise, most of the players prefer to take a week off following a tiring schedule prior to the Masters Tournament.
Simpson had a great 2011 year with two wins on the PGA Tour, reaching the second place in the FedEx Rankings table as well as the PGA Tour money list.
This will be his fourth consecutive appearance in the tournament that makes him a strong competitor at Harbour Town.
Johnson, a veteran PGA Tour golfer, has made seven appearances in the tournament so far. His best finish (sixth) in the tournament came in 2007, right after his victory in the Masters Tournament a week before.
On the other hand, the PGA Tour rookie, Bud Cauley, will be making his second the start in the event. His first appearance came in 2010, after winning the 2009 Players Amateur.
He has participated in seven tournaments on the 2012 PGA Tour so far and made cuts in six of them. His best finish came in the Farmers Insurance Open, where he finished tied for 13th.
Stenson is a European Tour player and participated in the 2010 Heritage Golf Tournament for the first time. He has a total of 10 international victories to his name.
Overall, the tournament’s field is competitive enough to attract the golf fans, who are expected to visit the Harbour Town Golf Links and watch their favourite players playing live on the course.
Moreover, the use of Green Power throughout the event at the course has also added advantage to the tournament for the last four years.
The tournament officials have recently announced to purchase Green Power from Palmetto Electric Cooperative.
