More players in the Milwaukee Brewers elect for free agency – MLB News
The Milwaukee Brewers continued their roster moves on Friday, November 2, with multiple players choosing free agency. The latest names that popped up as the free agents were that of reliever Kameron Loe and outfielder Nyjer Morgan.
Given an option of outright assignment to Triple-A Nashville, the two players rather opted for free agency. There were reports that first baseman Travis Ishikawa had also elected for free agency, opening the space for the Brewers to make new moves.
Milwaukee Brewers' general manager Doug Melvin talked about the recent moves in his Friday’s talk with the media, stating that the club has added some young players in the list.
"We just need roster space," general manager Doug Melvin said. "With our system, we've added some young guys and we've got a chance of adding as many as four to six more players to our roster [to protect them from the Rule 5 Draft].”
All recent developments are part of the move to create space and add players to the roster.
He added, "So we needed space to add players to our roster, needed space for waiver claims and free-agent players. The arbitration process drags out all the way to January and February. We need to make decisions before that."
It is pertinent to mention here that Jose Veras had earlier chosen free agency. The Brewers will now have options to exercise, going for most talented and qualified players to bring in the team in order to prepare them for the coming season.
Being one of the tough teams of the National League Central, the Brewers want to maintain their competition-oriented outlook with a range of veteran and young players ready to challenge any rival team.
Even though this year was not up to the mark for them, with the team’s inability to make it to the postseason games, the Brewers want to build a solid side for upcoming season.
With the recent moves, there is a likelihood of seeing a host of new players coming in the Brewers, playing along with the experienced players who have always had the dominance in the team, making it a competitive squad.
