Question:

More power for car stereo?

I've heard that replacing the alternator is the best way to settle this problem but for my SUV that involves major mechanical work.

Could I instead replace the battery with a optima yellow top?

  1. What the h**l are you running to need an upgraded alternator? Before I did that, I would tackle the basics. Upgrade the ground wire running from your battery to the chassis. Make sure you have large enough wire going to your amps. The battery will not increase the voltage, though.

  2. U could with one with more AmprereHours. Get the highest one u can fit in. But remember a battery needs recharching. Lets see: Stereo power 100w per channel? 2 channels 200w. At an efficiency of 75%, this makes us 266 watts. 266 watts at 12v equal 22.2 Amps. A battery of 66 AH can run this power for only 3 hours before becoming competely flat. Estimate 1.5 hours the max because u need power for restarting your car.

  3. i got one and it didn't help at all, if you can't change the alternator then try a couple capacitors a farad each would work
