just recently got one about 2 weeks ago...i was holding someone elses backpack that happened to have one beer in it(not so lucky)....so i was wondering if i should even bother trying to plead not guilty...it happened it new york and the cops said it would cost a max fee of 50...i was wondering if this would affect my car insurance ( there were no cars involved i dont even have a car) im 17 and will be 18 by the time i get insurance so i was wondering if this would affect my insurance even though ill be 18 and it will be off my record (atleast i think so right?)...so do you think i should just call up plead guilty because getting to court would be a hassle because im moving to another state...or should i show up and try to plead not guilty ....idk does any1 have prior experience with this in new york

  1. not in new york, but pleading not guilty would probably end up costing you more. You would have to hire an attorney and waste more time, money, for really no reason. An MIP won't do much on your record, and the fine will cost less than your court fees. Just plead guilty.

  2. Well try this. go to the police station and pretend to sell pot and if they stop u to ask wats in the bag tell them pot. an take out ur average kitchen pot they might get annoyed or laugh but next time with if they ask when u tell um pot they will think ur pullin their legs so they wont bother to check. Problem solved tell me if it works

  3. well you were in possesion of alcohol, so i would say plead guilty and get on with your life.
