More security wanted needed at London 2012 Olympic Games
It has recently been revealed that the security budget of the London 2012 Olympic Games will experience an increase of almost double to what it was estimated to be before. The news was broken by the Financial Times as they cited people who were familiar
with the situation.
The amount of increase that the budget is expected to experience is almost £275 million.
It had previously been expected that the number of security personnel to be required at the sites and otherwise patrolling the exclusive Olympic lanes might increase. As of now, the required amount of military personnel during the Olympics Games has increased
by a total of 25 percent.
About a month ago, the expected number of military personnel that were required was figured to 6000. However, now the Home Office as well as the Ministry of Defence both are making plans for the prestigious international sporting event on the basis of a
total of 7,500 military personnel. Furthermore, a separate amount of special military personnel will be required to look after the defence of air, maritime as well as other duties. This additional amount of military personnel total to be 5000.
The Ministry of Defence of Great Britain commented on the number of armed personnel required during the London 2012 Olympic Games in the following manner: "No final decisions have been taken by ministers on the extent of armed forces support for Olympic
security."
The year 2012 will be the year in which the city of London would welcome the Olympic Games to its soil for a total of third time in its history. In the past, the capital of England hosted the Olympic Games for the first time in the year 1908. After the successful
staging of the event, the Olympics made their way back to the capital of England almost half a century later in 1948. The London 2012 Olympic Games will make London the first city in the world which has had the opportunity of playing host to the Games for
a total of three times.
Therefore, the London Olympics organisers will be trying their best to make the event a world class affair.
