Question:

More specific rules to the AP Studio Art portfolio?

I was reviewing the rules to the AP Studio art portfolio in hopes of submitting one in the near future. I can't tell if you are allowed to submit pictures you drew of already printed and copyrighted photographs. (For example, I drew Misha Barton from the cover of NYLON.) Can I submit these sorts of images? Will I receive a lower score for submitting them?

Any kind of help is appreciated.

  1. That's a tricky one. Does the drawing look like you used a photograph for a main source? If not, It would probably be fine, but what else are you adding to the portfolio? If you have some portrait drawings, I would add a few more, but maybe in different mediums/perspective/styles.

When I submitted mine for AP port, one section was set aside for studies of the feet and shoes, done in different mediums, etc. So I had like, 5 of those, and the rest were the strongest pieces I had from that year. I got a 5, so I guess I did pretty good.  I would have someone, like an art student or teacher help you choose your best peices.
