Okay, I AM getting much better! ESPECIALLY at gettin into first gear! (GOOOO me). Anyway, I am having some actual driving questions involving the shifting, thanks.

-What do I do when I am slowing down at a red light, and I KNOW the light is going to change before I get there? Just downshift?

-When I downshift, my car kinda jerks... am I letting out the clutch too fast??

-Ummm, lets say I push the clutch in and shift it in neutral....but then I need to go again before I actually stop. Can I just throw it in any gear from neutral??

ANYTHING else you can tell me in refrence to REAL LIFE driving would be awesome. Thanks!

  1. always  nurse  your  clutch  specially  down shifting, always  have  it  in  gear   to  move   and  your  clutch  is  your  neutral

    specially  driving  in  the  city

  2. When i'm slowing down for a red light i just pop it in neutral and apply the brakes if it changes i just go back to either the same gear i was in or a gear lower. you will just have to compensate on which gear you need. you will eventually get the feel for it. my gf drives a standard and she was horrible at first but she has gotten better than me. so keep at it and good luck.

  3. If your slowing at a redlight and you know for a fact its going to change, just use the brakes, like slowing down for a turn.

When downshifting a Standard transmission, the car will jerk, just hold the clutch.

You can put it in any gear from neutral, but it is recommended (by me) to put it in a gear that suits your speed, like going 70mph on the highway, don't put it in 2nd or 3rd, usually 4th or 5th.

  4. Wow you are going to burn up your clutch learning.

Okay if your cars jerks you are letting off of the clutch to fast and it is trying not to stall out.

If you depress the clutch and go to neutral are you down shifting? You can go in to any gear from neutral but you would not go into 5th if you are going 20 mph. Look at your tachometer when you are shifting (start in first), when you hear the car whine go to second... you may be going 20-30 mph. Second to 3rd same thing. Do this until you learn about what speed you are going at in each gear, then when you decide to go in to neutral to coast when preparing to slow down you can figure out which is the correct gear for you to be in.

FYI when you master a car you have most of everything you need to ride a motorcyle, only everythiong you do with your hand in the car, you do with your foot on the bike and vice versa

  5. For  starters try down shifting one gear at a time as you slow down till you figure out which gear at what speed.Yes you can go to any gear from neutral at appropriate speed for gear.As far as jerking on down shift try speeding engine up a little as you let the clutch out slow.It takes a while to be able to drive smoothly .As far as real life don't ride or slip the clutch excessively.Ride with some one else and watch their technique closely
