one thing to note. the .357 is going to have more penetration. not only is there a chance of a pass through that hits a innocent, you also have to think of it like this. Modern cars are made to crumple in crashes. this is made to lessen the force felt in the cabbin. so if the .357 is getting more penetration, it will take longer to stop inside mr. bad guy. meaning that the .45 will create a much bigger shock on impact to the targets body. so if mr. bad guy lunges at you with a knife, it will stop him like he hit a brick wall.

i own a sig p226 in .357 sig and several 1911 s . as guns go i would use either one , how ever, the ammo for the 357 is EXPENSIVE !!!!! as in 40 dollars a box.
as a man stopper,the sig is edging out the 45 a little but not by much . at any rate , either one will do what you need as long as you hit center mass. you can carry a bazooka and miss and still get your butt kicked . so, get the gun you can shoot accurately and practice practice practice.

The .357 sig has more velocity than the .45acp. The 357 sig comes close to the power of a .357 mag. This has the potinetial to cause hydrostatic shock in the target. This combined with the knockdown power can make the .357sig a significant man stopper. However, the 45 acp makes a bigger hole causing immediate blood pressure lose. The impact power of the 45 is greater than the 357 sig with out the penetration. So it is more unlikely that the 45 is going to go through the target and hit an innocent bystander. Unless you think that you are going to need to shoot through light body armour or at cars I would go with the 45. The state troopers might have to shoot at a victim fleeing in a car. I only care to shoot a victim that is comming at me if they are running away in a car I will just call the cops and let them go.
