  1. if you have one other cage to put your new love bird in that will be good

if you get one more love bird make sure it's not the same s*x as the other one because if you have 2 male they will fight some times if you have 2 female they will fight over a net box or any other place they can lay there egg's

if you do get one more put them in diffrent cages in the same room for one 4 weeks and than try to put tham in the same cage look at what they do to each other for about 25min if you see them fighting a little leave them but if there fighting alot tham sperat tham for one more week and than try puting tham together again

  2. in our country, lovebirds are always sold in pairs. they die when they don't have "partners" that's why they're called lovebirds. buy a new one, that's fine.

  3. That is not true what the previous poster said.  About 100 years ago, when Lovebirds first became pets, people would say that they would die if they didn't have a cage-mate. This is untrue. Plenty of people live happily with just one lovie, and I think I read an article recently where they said that most Lovebirds are territorial towards new Lovies.

BUT, I am a believer that birds require much, much more social interaction than we're able to provide (6-8 hrs per day!) and being VERY gregarious, flocking creatures, if you have enough time to spend with two, the more the merrier!

But don't get the new bird if you don't have time to care for two, seperately.  I've heard this rule and thought it was great: Get a new bird and PLAN for them not getting along.  By that, they meant buy 2 cages, new dishes, toys, etc. and plan for them living seperately but putting the cages next to eachother.  Make sure you have time for 2, etc.  before getting another because if they happen to not get along, you'll be screwed.

But if they get along, that's great!

  4. Yes! they will snuggle togeather! its sooo cute.

  5. You can get another lovebird but do not put it into the other ones cage right away. You have got to house them in different cages otherwise they are going to fight to the death. LOVEBIRDS do not tolerate another one moving in on their territory. So be very careful when you put them into the same cage together. I would suggest housing them in different cages, then when you are ready after having them for at least 2 months, put them both in a brand new cage so they go into it together and the cage is new to both of them so they don't feel like the other one moved in on their own cage. If the cage is new to both of them then it will be THEIR cage not just the others.
