My time in Europe this summer is limited and I already have a few days in italy planned. I HAVE to see some of Switzerland, so my question is - Am I better off spending an extra day in Switzerland, or taking the train to Paris only to be there for a day??

  1. If you can spend the cash, or have time to look up the budget airways(easyjet.com), try to fly, if not, u still can get the trains out to Paris, and even the TGV from nearer Basel. Paris is definitely a city you must visit, but couldnt possibly do that in a day to be happy. you will have to choose a few places in Paris to see, and you should spend some time just walking the streets of Paris. Swiss is nice and beautiful, they mostly the ountrysides, mountains, Alps, etc. Some of the towns with the riverrs running through them are very nice too.

But Paris is a city not only for romance, but just because it is a classic city that u must visit if you are around here.

Historic sites, like the churches(Notre Dame, Sacre Coeur, St Sulpiice, etc can be done fast, but be prepared to travel a bit in the city. Get a scooter if you can, otherwise look up for train passes or bus passes).

The streets of Paris, and especially, like Ile de la Cite, Ile St Louis are great places to have lunch and the famed ice cream Berthillon(Ile St Louis).

Look up the internet for more info on Paris...

oh and skip the Louvre if you have no time, you need to spend a day there to be happy, and if you go in u might forget to come out soon enuff...

  2. Well, you must see Paris on a European vacation.

But, you will find it's very dirty.  I think one day to see the sights is good enough.  Switzerland was definitely my favorite place in Euorope.

  3. Paris.

  4. definitly paris.

  5. I'd be interested in knowing how much time you are spending in Switzerland already and how much time you will be in Europe. If Geneva is on your itinerary - then a train from Geneva to Paris is pretty easy. It's only 3 1/2 hours. Take the earliest train you can get and spending the entire day in Paris. Arm yourself with a metro pass, a museum pass (must see the Louvre and Mona Lisa). Museum pass allows you to go right in. No waiting in Line. Take a hop on / hop off bus tour. Get off where you want and get back on the next bus. I think you can definitely get the flavor of Paris in a day. Allow yourself some time to sit in a cafe and just watch the people go by.
