  1. most speakers with more than three sound resonating devices tend to have limited response.Meaning either plays more highs or sound is flat. If  better well rounded sound is what you want then the component systems may be worth looking into. But three normally gives the best rounded sound.

  2. It's... basically another way of saying how many voice coils/drivers/cones the "speaker" is comprised of. You can reasonably ignore it, and concentrate instead on listening to a speaker before you buy it in-store or taking reviews/recommendations online.

Typical speakers for in-car applications are 2-way coaxials 3-way triaxials, especially if you're looking at 6x9s. Unless you consider component speakers which are dedicated, separate speaker units for handling different frequencies. Some would say the more "ways" the better, arguing that there are more voice coils dedicated to certain parts of the frequency range. But you could counter that with comments about the crossover frequencies and increase risk of flat spots in the overall speaker frequency response.

  3. more like the more money u spend the better

  4. Absolutley not.  More ways = more ways to s***w up your sound.  a 2 way is great, a 3 way is also very great, as long as its not on my speakers.

  5. i used to have pioneer 3 ways in my truck and they sounded pretty good...my only complaint is the tweeters are a little sharp, plus Pioneer isn't one of the best brands around (I think).  However, there are very good 2 way speakers on the market.  Check out Alpine, JL Audio and Polk.  Needless to say, 3-ways are good (depending on the brand).

If you want better sound quality invest into a pair of component speakers.  The crossovers that come with them feed the correct frequencies to the right speakers (the woofers and tweeters) and produce a more realistic sound.  You will also hear some more details in your music.  Some people do say however that components and 2-ways are similar, but consider that the crossovers feed the correct frequencies to the right speakers, allowing each components to do their job that they are supposed to do.  I have listened to many 2-way speakers and compared them to components and the components sound better in my book.
