More woe in Ethiopia.?

When Ethiopia was under the rule of H.I.M. Haile Selassie, Conquering Lion of Judah, King of Kings and Elect of God the country propered and was developing at a good rate, there were problems and the Emperor had had to plead his country's case after their illegal invasion by the Italians and the execution of members of his own family. They got rid of Selassie in 1975 and since then have lost Eritrea, their coast, they had the evil Dergue regime for 15 years until 1990, famine in the 1980's, civil war and now famine again. Was Ethiopia not better off under the iron fist of a hard but just rule who ruled according to the Bible? Where are the people now who scorned the Lion of Judah? The King of the oldest Christian country in the world?

  1. sorry cannot help you, very interesting, but I do not know much about Ethiopia except for the churches that are carved in rock.

  2. Well you got me buggered that's for sure.

  3. According to the Bible? I doubt it. What would the Muslim population have to say to that. I know two Ethiopians that are Muslim and they would rather chew a brick than accept anything from the Bible. They are quite a radical nation and most do not suffer difference easily. I wonder if I ask them about the Kebra Nagast? Would they know?

Thousands upon thousands of Ethiopians are living in Europe, either as asylum seekers and/or illegal immigrants. They are sending every last cent home which is probably one of the only reasons why Ethiopia still manages to limp on one leg.

I cottoned on to one of the conversations one of them had with their family at home. A sister was shouting at him demanding that he must make more efforts to earn and send more money. This guy is 40 years old, living in a studio room, and has spent 20 years in Germany doing exactly that...working and sending money home. His brother is in the UK doing exactly the same.

  4. Interesting question.

    1. About the Emperor's rule: Yes, he was the sign and symbol of Ethiopia. But he was just that. He never went down and listened to the woes of the masses. There were people dying of hunger during his rule, contrary to what many people think. In fact, that was one of the reasons for the revolution. Read about the Wello Famine. He denied any knowledge of it when he was asked. Some say that the ministers below him didn't want to tell him because it would have been too embarrassing to him and his empire. After all he projected an image of a rich and progressive Ethiopia.

2.Justice: although he was seen as the final authority by all Ethiopians, he in turn was not just. Ethiopia was a feudal country. I don't think there was ever a country that followed feudalism and was still just. The entire population was run and subjugated by a few chosen people that were close to the monarchy, either as family or chosen ones. The rest were left to grovel in misery.

    3. Eritrea: Eritrea was never a part of Ethiopia. Meaning that it was a confederation added to Ethiopia after the second world war. The plan was that it would have it's own parliament and be run like a confederacy. But the Emperor over-ruled that and said that it was a part of Ethiopia and hence would be run by the Ethiopian government. THATstarted a rebellion and Africa's longest lasting civil war that ended with hundreds of thousands of deaths.

    4. Economic progress: there was comparatively little to no advantage gained by the people during that reign of the emperor. Nothing trickeld down to the masses. It was all run and kept in the coffers of the monarchy. Whereas all the previous rulers made sure that atleast some of the progress was passed down to the masses. A very good example would be Emperor Menilik II.

    5. Famine: at present there is no famine in Ethiopia. Yes, we are facing a crop/food shortage. Yes, farmers have been caught offguard with the rains playing havoc with schedules and calendars. The UN has admitted that it had exaggerated the number of people affected by the famine. The BBC has blatantly lied about the figures that were provided by the UN turned malnourishment into famine, multiplied the numbers by the thousands and was caught red-handed. They didn't even care to apologise.

But let me tell you something. While I do not blame the emperor for each and everything that happened during his reign the fact remains that:

    - he started the civil war.

    - people died of hunger, and nothing was done about it.

    - he kept the people subjugated and wouldn't even entertain the slightest notion of democracy.

Whereas now, Ethiopia is making rapid economic progress, no matter how much some people find it hard to believe. The food shortage is caused by the global impact of a rise in commodities prices and ofcourse oil/petroleum.

People are being taken care of here. Do not believe what the media tells you. They have their own agenda to push. Or they are biased, as the BBC has openly admitted. (Why else would they send a Somalian reporter into Somalia and tell us to listen and believe what he reports. He's eventually left them and gone to Al Jazeera and is playing that same tired song again.)

So, my friend. Try to look at Ethiopia with unbiased open eyes. You will see that a new nation is being born. If you're a true friend of Ethiopia, take the time to know her. We do and we love her.

And we're not all dying of hunger !

    One Love !!!
