The Women’s Volleyball team of Morehead State posted a 3-1 (22-25, 25-20, 25-17, 25-17) victory over Jacksonville State on Friday, November 11. The Pete Mathew Coliseum in Jacksonville, Alabama set up the field of play for this interesting Ohio Valley Conference
(OVC) match. Red shirts dominated the hosts and defeated them on their home soil. The Eagles now stand with a healthy 23-6 win/loss record for the season, while Gamecocks of Jacksonville State stick to 10-19. With 18 OVC wins in hand, Morehead State is near
to set an all-time OVC record for league victories.
MSU’s Aryn Bohannon recorded a match-high 24 kills with a sizzling .476 hitting percentage and led her team to success. Moreover, Senior Emma Keough, freshman Laura McDermott and junior Ellie Roberson helped the team with 12, 11, and 10 kills, respectively.

The front row player for Gamecocks, Liza Senekova, showed great temperament and fought for her team. She chipped in 13 kills and collected six blocks. Stephanie Koontz and Hivya Leite registered 10 kills apiece. On the defence side, Lauren Harkins and Alinga
Agamy did a great job for Gamecocks. They supported JSU with 17 and 8 digs, respectively.
The match was opened with balanced action from both sides. The teams were prepared to stage a great game and jumped on every little opportunity to score points. Gradually, Gamecocks went up on the scoreboard. They worked out accurate shots and added quick
points. Eagles’ Bahannon and Keough put up good effort but could not achieve the desired results. MSU dropped the first set with a narrow gap of three points, 22-25.
JSU tried to put pressure on the Eagles in second set and used different tactics to stay ahead in the game. However, Eagles grasped the game plan and came up with appropriate strategy to break the rhythm of Gamecocks. It was not an easy task to overcome
the charged-up JSU players but the spirited play of MSU changed the scenario. Bahannon hit unstoppable spikes and also scored points on tricky bump passes. The situation got better for Morehead State and they pushed the home squad behind the attack line. Second
set came handy for MSU as they posted 25-20 win over JSU.
Eagles were very much out of the shock of defeat in first set and played to their full potential in third set. They faced a lot of resistance from JSU but managed to secure third set at 25-17. Fourth set also came successful for MSU and they sent the hosts
to 1-3 defeat by winning third set with the identical score of 25-17.
In the next run, the Eagles are scheduled to take on Tennessee Tech volleyball team on Saturday, while Gamecocks will try their luck against Eastern Kentucky.
