Moreno Hofland wins final stage as Laurent Pichon takes overall lead in Kreiz Breizh Elites 2011
Rabobank Continental team’s Moreno Hofland won the fourth stage of Kreiz Breizh Elites 2011 on Monday, July 25. Laurent Pichon takes overall leader’s yellow jersey.
The race started in Carhaix and ended in Rostrenen. Nederland rider took the total of 4 hours, 5 minutes and 41 seconds to cover the distance of 169.1 kilometers.
Team manager Arthur van Dongen told the media, "But he had teammates in front, get in the way that went away quickly approaching and Pichon, when we decided to go for the stage win and the classifications that we already had in their hands to defend,"
Race leader Laurent Pichon of Bretagne Schuller runner-up and Maxime Renault of Sojasun Espoir ACNC finished third with the same timing of Nederland.
Bert Jan Lindeman (Cyclingteam Jo Piels), Aurelien Passeron (Geusam Ginseng Asia) and Camille Chancrin (Espoir Cycliste St-Etienne Loire) were in fifth, sixth and seventh place respectively.
19 cyclists cross the finish line with the same timing of sprinter while Bryan Koowenberg (VL Technics-Abutriek Cycling Team) also wanted to take a part in the leading cyclists but failed to hold his pace and grabbed 20th place with the difference
of 12 seconds ahead of Florian Vachon.
Ji Hoon Kim (Geusam Ginseng Asia), Florenz Knauer (Seven Stones) and Matthias Bossuyt (Sunweb-Revor.be) were disqualified from the stage.
A group of four cyclists made their first breakaway including, Benjamin Le Montagne (Cotes d'Armor Cyclisme), Maxime Renault, Moreno Hofland and Laurent Pichon.
All of them managed to gain a lead of a few seconds over the peloton but Maxime Renault launched an attack with Pichon, but both of them failed to catch Hofland. Rabobank Continental team’s showed their good effort and response in an attack of 25 riders.
However, Hofland crossed the finish line ahead of the other cyclists.
Dongen further added, “There is no second result of this theft. It's also amazing that the team after four weeks of relative inactivity so great doing it here. A sign that they have taken the form securely. We go to these guys enough to hear the coming weeks.
"
Bretagne Schuller team’s Pichon took the overall standing with the timing of 13 hours, 2 minutes and 40 seconds. The stage winner Hofland was runner-up with 4 seconds and Thomas Kvist (Glud & Marstrand – LRO) was in third spot with 8 seconds behind Pichon.
