Moreno Moser wins the Tour de Pologne 2012
Moreno Moser of Team Liquigas-Cannondale secured the first overall position during the 2012 edition of the Tour de Pologne.
The cyclist is enjoying a superb season and has already filled his bag with numerous victories in the earlier part of the season.
He finished first at the Trofeo Laigueglia, Eschborn-Frankfurt City Loop, second at the Trofeo Melinda and achieved the third overall position during the Italian National Road Race Championships.
Moreno’s exceptional form was evident right through the start of the Polish race which helped him with two stage victories during the first half of the event.
"My first victory at Karpacz gave me confidence. Then Kwiatkowski got the jersey off me and I knew that in those two mountain stages I could try and get it back and I did," said Moser.
"Today I started off with a five-second advantage and they weren't enough to feel relaxed. I counted down kilometre after kilometre; I couldn't wait for the stage to finish and fortunately everything went well. I'm super happy".
"I will always remember Poland; this is my first year as a pro and here I clinched the first major success in my career".
Michal Kwiatkowski of Team Omega Pharma-Quickstep fell five seconds short at the second position with Sergio Luis Henao Montoya, Alexandr Kolobnev and Linus Gerdemann securing the next three positions.
Kwiatkowski was disappointed after such a near miss at the overall classifications but noted that the second place finish is also not bad to please the home fans.
He cited that wearing the yellow jersey for two days was a real thrill for him and thanked the crowd for their continuous support throughout the seven-day race.
John Degenkolb of Team Argos-Shimano wins the final stage of the Tour de Pologne with Mathew Hayman, Ben Swift, Jacopo Guarnieri and Tosh Van Der Sande holding the next four positions.
Ben also wins the overall point’s classifications with a total number of 77 UCI points in his pocket while Michal Kwiatkowski and Moreno Moser held the second and the third positions with 69 and 59 UCI points respectively.
Tomasz Marczynski, Daniel Teklehaimanot and Bartosz Huzarski occupied the top three spots at the mountain’s classifications whereas, Adrian Kurek, Lukasz Bodnar and Michal Kwiatkowski received the honours at the sprint classifications.
