Moreno Moser wins the opening stage of the Tour De Pologne 2012
While the Tour de France caravan is enjoying the first rest day of the race, the focus has now turned towards the Tour of Poland.
The seven-day race is scheduled from July 10-16 and Moreno Moser of Team Liquigas Cannondale managed to find the top of the podium during the opening stage of the race.
The stage was affected by rain but it could not really stop the in-form Italian from registering his first victory at the Polish event.
He sailed across the finish-line in the quickest time of 4 hours, 32 minutes and 53 seconds and restricted his major opponents.
Michal Kwiatkowski of Team Omega Pharma-Quickstep, Lars Boom of Team Rabobank, Fabian Wegmann of Team Garmin-Sharp and Manuele Mori of Lampre-ISD occupied the second, third, fourth and fifth positions respectively.
Moser opened his 2012 winning account with a first place finish at the Trofeo Laigueglia and the Eschborn-Frankfurt City Loop.
He finished second at the Trofeo Melinda and achieved the third overall position at the Italian National Road Race Championships.
The cyclist also managed to secure the top spot at the point’s category of the race and earned as many as 20 points in his bag.
Michal Kwiatkowski of Team Omega Pharma-Quickstep is 1 point behind at the second position with Lars Boom, Fabian Wegmann and Manuele Mori holding the third, fourth and fifth positions respectively.
Moreno is now leading the stage 1 classifications with Michal Kwiatkowski, Lars Boom, Fabian Wegmann and Manuele Mori securing the next four positions.
