Morethanafeeling and Landsdowne in contention for the naasracecourse.com Apprentice Handicap at Naas
Naas will host the naasracecourse.com Apprentice Handicap over seven furlongs on Wednesday, 16th May. The race has attracted a line-up of sixteen four-year and older thoroughbreds.
There are only two entries who have raced at Naas during the new season and have pulled out very decently, one celebrated victory while the other enjoyed scoring second.
Morethanafeeling, Verglas’ six-year-old grey mare out of mare, Canaan, has raced thrice during the new season and blew off her career record by finally posting a victory and that too came through the most recent race at Naas.
Her seasonal debut was in the Munster Handicap Hurdle on 7th January at Thurles over two miles. The race was won by Fiery Oscar and the 7/2 joint favourite of the race, Mark Me Up, settled the closest to the winner.
The other joint favourite, On My Own, made it to the fifth position on the track of thirteen.
Even the second outing of the season did not bring Morethanafeeling much luck as she finished seventh on the track that had sixteen contestants on 12th April at Gowran Park over a mile.
It was the third try of the season that gifted her with a long sought victory. The six-year-old won the Tipper Road Apprentice Handicap on 21st April at Naas over a mile.
The race demanded all that Morethanafeeling could offer as she pulled away the race by a mere head’s difference from the runner up of the race, Landsdowne.
The winner had Samantha Bell onboard.
The 6/1 joint favourites of the race, Waterloo Sunrise and Refuse To Sell, ended fourth and eighth.
Today will be the straight second time during the new season that she will race at Naas. Winning for the first time and that too after so long will entice her to bag more opportunities that come her way.
An entry to look out for is the five-year-old Landsdowne who has been performing extraordinarily ever since the new season shot off. He qualified as the runner up in two and ended up claiming the third venture of the season.
On 21st April, he scored second against Morethanafeeling.
The two will confront each other again and how will the positions switch this time, will unfold soon.
