The former Lorient man joined Les Phoceens on a free transfer last summer. However, following a mixed season at the Stade Velodrome, the midfielder is keen to kick-start his career somewhere else
Following a tough and disappointing season at Marseille, 27-year-old Morgan Amalfitano has allegedly handed in a transfer request.
Both the club and the player had huge expectations of each other following the Frenchman’s free transfer from fellow Ligue 1 side Lorient in summer. However, a less than commanding campaign saw Olympique de Marseille finish a disappointing 10th in
the Ligue 1 despite winning the prestigious Coupe de la Ligue and reaching the quarter final stage of Champions League.
Despite enduring a dreadful season at Marseille, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Morgan-Amalfitano-c26799 performed relatively well in his debut season at the Velodrome. But the heroics of the Frenchman were not enough to keep OM in the race for next year’s Champions League.
According to L'Equipe, disharmony in the dressing room and failure to qualify for next year’s Champions League are the main reasons behind Amalfitano’s decision to quit the Rhone giants and hand-in a transfer request.
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127 star did not enjoy best of the relationships with his teammates. In the past, Amalfitano has accused his colleagues for failing to perform to their best and slammed a particular group of players, who don’t want to do well in order
to achieve their personal advantages.
While talking to reporters, the Frenchman slammed the attitudes of few players, who according to him are ruining the atmosphere of the dressing room. The 27-year-old suggested that the club should refrain itself from a core of players who don’t want to do
well for the club.
“A core group of players made the effort. But I do not know if everyone has done so. We must get away with this core that wants to go after other things. We know who cheats and who does not cheat. You have to take those who want to do well.”
The Frenchman has made 32 league appearances for Les Phoceens this season and is under contract until 2015. This could result in Marseille asking a hefty fee for the want-away midfielder.
