Morgan Pressel a rising LPGA star
When American Morgan Pressel had said a few months back that she aspired to become the world number one someday, no one had been surprised, because the star golfer has shown on several occasions
that she has what it takes to rule women’s golf.
Starting her amateur career in 2001, Pressel won the hearts of professional players whom she idolised, as she had to go through pretty rough times while learning explosive golfing skills.
Soon, the star golfer put herself in the limelight by proving her worth in amateur tournaments, and became eligible to take part in the US Women’s Open, being only 12 years old.
In her recent interview, Pressel said that her goals might have changed a little now compared with when she was playing amateur golf, but becoming the world number one is what she is after.
She said that she has not lost hope despite facing ups and downs in her professional career, because she knows she still has plenty of time to reach that stage.
“Ten years is a long time away. Between now and then, I want to improve my golf and continue to get better. I'd like to be the best player in the world! In order to get there, though, it's
a long road and it's going to take a lot of work,” the golfing sensation said.
Pressel told that growing up watching her family immersed in different sports has been a great experience. “I started playing 11 years ago and I've been playing ever since! Being a professional
athlete is part of my family because my uncle is a professional tennis player”.
After grinding away without a triumph on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour, Pressel decided to take her game even more seriously after she turned professional in 2005, and
it had become here biggest goal to earn her maiden victory.
There are plausible reasons why Pressel should rise to the top. Although she rose to prominence after about two years of becoming professional as she won her first title at Kraft Nabisco Championship
2007—a major event, the American star had already proved her mettle by recording stunning finishes in some of the prestigious tournaments.
The 2005 US Women’s Open, which saw Pressel coming close to a victory as she finished tied for the second spot on the leaderboard, would have been a game changer for the LPGA contender because
her fans and admirers had been expecting her to win that event in the first year of her pro career.
Fighting a tough battle in a field that featured big names of that time, Pressel stood her ground and posted amazing scores in all the four rounds.
Another heart-wrenching major collapse came in the 2011 season, as Pressel nearly won the LPGA Championship. The American prodigy beat all the rivals except for the current world number one
Yani Tseng, who was quick to grab a gigantic 10-shot lead against her.
