Morgan Pressel draws in Rickie Fowler, Dave Stockton and others for her breast cancer charity drive
St. Andrews Resident Touring Professional and one of the renowned LPGA golfers, Morgan Pressel teamed up with her fellow LPGA players and friends to raise a whooping $502,000 through the 4th Annual 'Morgan & Friends Fight Cancer' Tournament.
Played at the revered St. Andrews Country Club of Boca Raton on January 4 and 5, the event was attended by a strong contingent of 350 St. Andrews Country Club members, sponsors and guests.
Pressel, along with her several fellow players, has been involved in a fight against the dreaded breast cancer which threatens the lives of thousands of American women across the country.
She started off her bid to raise funds for the fight back in 2009 and was able to purchase Kathryn Krickstein Pressel MammoVan.
The van continuously tours the remote areas of the country and has tested 1,000 women in the Palm Beach Country alone, out of which 875 of them never had a mammogram.
"Each year my fellow members continue to amaze me with their generosity and goodwill towards the general community," stated Morgan Pressel.
She added, "I would like to thank the Morgan & Friends Committee, the St. Andrews Country Club Members and all of the event sponsors. With their support and dedication each year the Morgan & Friends Fight Cancer Tournament grows bigger and better than the last".
The event was attended by some of the celebrated figures of the sport, including Natalie Gulbis, Paula Creamer, Angela Stanford, Rickie Fowler and Dave Stockton.
The event kicked off with a Tuesday night reception at the sprawling St Andrews Country Club’s dining hall.
On January 5, the attendees had an opportunity to get up close with the renowned golfers, playing rounds of Four-somes followed by free putting instructions by the putting guru Stockton himself.
Craig Martin, Chief Operating Officer of St. Andrews said, "We congratulate Morgan and all the members at St. Andrews Country Club for putting together a first-class golf tournament and fund raising effort".
In the course of four years, Pressel and her associates have been able to raise $1.7 million through various charity shows with proceeds of the earnings going directly to the Morgan Pressel Foundation.
The foundation not only runs the Kathryn Krickstein Pressel MammoVan but also supports the Boca Raton Regional Hospital and the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Centre.
St. Andrews Country Club, which has been the major centre of attraction for the charity drive, is a resident-only Platinum Club of America and is famous for the unmatched world-class facilities.
It houses two 18-hole championship courses, sprawling clubhouse, 15 clay tennis courts and a state-of-art spa and fitness centre.
The club also boasts of a signature Arnold Palmer design course which has been the venue of many professional events on the PGA.
It has also been the famous escape for the tour professionals Phil Mickelson, Arnold Palmer, John Daly and Rocco Mediate who regularly visit the course for practice sessions.
