  1. Morgans are probably the most versatile of the many breeds, they are exceptionally strong but can also be excellent in show, dressage and jumping.  Some of the finest jumpers have Morgan bloodlines, these are usually X-breeded, often with Quarter horses.

The standard quarter horse is also an excellent horse and when bred with others, can be developed for show, dressage and jumping as well but generally are most used for general yard work, cutting, herding and is the favorite of rodeo riders.

  2. Typically, Quarter Horses aren't built for high jumping. They can jump, just not as well as other breeds. Jumpers are (usually) taller and leaner. Morgan horses are not known for jumping, they are known for doing excellent in showing classes. Quarter horses are not too tall and they have a sturdy appearance. They are very kind (usually, but with any breed, there are exceptions) and they come in many colors. Morgans are beautiful horses, though I haven't known many, they are probably nice too. Morgans are usually bay, brown or black. I think if you want a jumper, a Thoroughbred or something of that sort would suit you. They are about 16 or 17 hands, and they come in various colors. Good luck in your search for a horse!!

  3. I'm 5'2" and my 15h qh fits me perfect. You want to have your weight be 20% or less (with tack) of any horse you choose.

Quarter horses have hunter/jumper classes in their shows - there are longer bodied tb-type quarter horses as well as the traditional western bull dog types.

Look for a decently long pastern if you want to be jumping, and a good shoulder, too- not one that's real upright (right over the horse's leg). You'll be wanting some "spring".... (read that as light feet, lol.)

Morgans are all around horses, too, so I can't imagine that they wouldn't make good jumpers.

    Horse shopping is sooo fun!

  4. 15 hands would be good for you. and as far as breed goes it really depends on the individual horse. i would say Morgans are a little more versatile and make a prettier hunter while the QH makes a stronger stockier horse.

it depends on what you want to ride. they both can jump again depending on the individual, but do you want to ride a slower stockier horse, or a flashy pretty Morgan.

personally i would go with a Morgan!

  5. quarter, throughbred, rhinelander, and rottalers ae good jumping horses
