Morgan Stoddart replaces injured Jason Tovey in Wales 42-man Training Squad for Poland - Rugby
Welsh Rugby Union has named Scarlets’ winger, Morgan Stoddart, as replacement for the injured Jason Tovey in the Wales’ 42-man training squad for the team camp in Poland. Rugby Union officials made the announcement in a statement released on their website
on Monday, July 4.
Stoddart was initially left out of the squad announced for the Poland training camps because the player was struggling with a thigh injury. At that point the team management decided not to risk the winger’s health and wait until he regains full fitness.
Jason Tovey on the other hand has been struggling with his back injury. According to initial reports, Tovey’s problem is being compounded by the damage to his nerves in the back.
Welsh Rugby Union medical manager, Prav Mathema, has confirmed the nerve injury to Tovey. He said, “He will undergo further investigation and a scan back in Wales. And we will know more once we have seen the results.”
Mathema has expressed hope that the training and conditioning camps in the Polish border city of Spala will enhance the rehabilitation of Stoddart’s thigh injury. He said, “Morgan is doing well and is now up and running again, so his rehabilitation can be
improved with use of the cryotherapy chambers here in Poland.”
Wales head coach, Warren Gatland, has hinted at his plans of subjecting his players to cryotherapy in Poland. The eastern European country is renowned for its cryotherapy treatment, which is believed to reduce the recovery time of the muscles and other strains.

Mathema further added that as Stoddart’s injury is muscle related, his inclusion in the training camp makes more sense.
In addition to Jason Tovey, Ospreys hooker Richard Hibbard, Scarlets’ Stephen Jones, Sale Sharks scrum half Dwayne Peel and Melbourne Rebels flanker Gareth Delve have also missed out from the 42-man training squad announced for the training camp.
Hibbard is struggling with a shoulder injury, whereas Jones is currently enjoying paternity leave on account of the birth of his first child. Meanwhile, Peel and Delve were unavailable for the two legged training camp.
The 42-man squad announced for the training camp in the Poland includes-
