Morgan Wade emerges triumphant in season opener of MegaRamp Championship Series
The professional BMX rider from Texas, Morgan Wade, managed to come up with the most impressive performance of the day to emerge triumphant at MegaRamp Open, opening event of the inaugural MegaRamp Championship Series, at WestWood West in Tehachapi, California,
on Thursday, June 9th.
Some of the most exciting BMX riders from all around the world had converged at Westwood West to participate in the competition. These riders included both professionals as well as amateurs who were eager to get their talent and BMX prowess acknowledged.
Other than Wade, the talent pool gathered for the competition included the likes of Australia’s Vince Byron and America’s James Foster among many other exciting athletes.
The contest featured a monstrous ramp feature along with a high quarter-pipe. Ironically, out of the 10 riders in the line up, only one had experienced an X Games Big Air contest, while the rest were still relatively new to a ramp-to-ramp feature of this
size. Nonetheless, they looked confident and eager to prove themselves.
As per the format of the contest, two heats were to feature five riders each in a 20-minute jam session, with the best two scores of each rider on the jump and quarter-pipe getting counted. This meant that the riders had to show their innovation as well
as skills on both, the jump as well as the quarter-pipe, twice in order to end up with a fighting total. However, the riders were given some relaxation; their best scores on both the features did not necessarily have to be in the same run.
Wade’s superior performance on both the features carried him to victory, while Byron finished in second place and Foster rounded out the third position. Instead of winning prize money, the top-three finishers were given a spot in the next stop of the MegaRamp
Championship Series that is scheduled to be held in Brazil next month.
Wade had already qualified for the Brazilian event, so the third spot was awarded to the American rider who finished in fourth place, Colton Satterfield.
The second stop of the MegaRamp Championship Series, NescauMegaRampa Invitational, will be held at Sambadromo in Sao Paulo, Brazil, from July 1-3.
