Retired Spanish footballer, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Morientes-c13689, has stressed that Real Madrid should attack Barcelona instead of trying to defend against them.
The former Los Blancos forward believes that it would be preferable for the Spanish capital-based club to maintain their attacking game play against their arch rivals, when the two teams face each other over the weekend.
This Saturday’s fixtures in the Spanish La Liga bring the two Spanish giants face to face in the league’s second El Clasico.
As Jose Mourinho’s men visit the Nou Camp, they will be defending a four-point lead against the current Spanish champions. The Whites, though still atop the league standings, are wary of the threat posed by the Catalan giants particularly because they have
been unbeaten at home in their last 54 games.
Even apart from their unbeaten run at home, Madrid have not been able to get preferable results while facing them ever since Pep Guardiola took charge of Barca. Their head-to-head record against the Catalans over the past three seasons hardly does any justice
to their legacy as a great club.
Although Los Merengues have demonstrated great improvement under the management of Jose Mourinho, even the ‘Special One’ has succumbed to the brilliance of Pep Guardiola’s men.
Considering the fact that Real are defending a four-point lead and that they have a poor record against Barca at the Nou Camp, many believed that the Santiago Bernabeu outfit may choose to approach the game defensively.
Contrary to this, Morientes has exclaimed that such an approach towards the match may cost Madrid the game.
While addressing reporters, the 36-year-old quoted:
"Madrid cannot play for a draw. They have to go to win, to attack and play the football that their players are capable of. If the game gets difficult, they can start thinking about just getting a draw.
"However, there is a lot of risk attached to just thinking about trying to defend against a team like Barcelona."
As El Clasico draws near, fans are eager to see the tactics that may be used by both teams as Saturday’s result will play a significant role in determining this year’s champions.
